The public disclosure of Deputy President William Ruto’s private assets by Interior Cabinet Fred Mating’i has started to raise political temperatures in the country.

Appearing before the National Assembly Security Committee, Matiang’i over withdrawal GSU guard from the DP’s homes, Matiang’i listed multi-million properties owned the second in command.

They include hotels, poultry farms, ranches, and huge tracts of land. Matiang’i said these assets were under State protection despite not being protected areas under law.

Responding to the CS’s leak, Dr. Ruto said 70 percent of what was is true, and the rest is fiction. Part of what DP claimed was a fib is that he owns ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch, which sits on a 15,000-acre piece of land.

However, he said senior civil servants forgot to mentions that he makes Ksh1.5 million a day from egg sales plus he is a major shareholder in Safaricom.

And now allies of the second in command have said they are disposed to bully President Uhuru Kenyatta over the land issue.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said the revelations about the DP’s properties had given them the perfect opportunity to unmask enormous parcels of land owned by the Kenyatta family.

“Matiang’i should not think we are fools, but thanks to his drama in Parliament, we can now start talking about land. We are going to terrorise Uhuru in a way he has never seen before,” he said.

He claimed that many people were landless in the country because certain powerful people grabbed what was supposed to be given to squatters and freedom fighters.

The lawmakers added every property owned by the Kenyattas was being guarded by GSU officers yet they have never been gazetted as protected areas.

“We will ask who stole land that had been reserved for Mau Mau freedom fighters. We will ask why land meant for freedom fighters is being guarded by the GSU. They have opened a very important conversation and starting this weekend we are going to spill the beans,” he said.

In a past forum, President Kenyatta admitted that his family owns large tracts of land, but denied the grabbing claims.

He said that his family bought the land from willing sellers, and therefore, he and other members of the Kenyattas should never be crucified.
