Popular football enthusiast Isaac Juma died on Wednesday following an attack by an unknown assailant at his home in Mumias, Kakamega County.
Police officers investigating the incident have pointed out that preliminary investigations indicate that Juma was involved in a land dispute within his locality.
Western Regional police boss Peris Muthoni said that they are currently on hold of the suspect and are carrying out interrogations to determine the veracity of the case.
“We have a suspect over the murder to know more,” she said.
Juma is a renowned football fanatic and a die-hard fan of Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, and Kenya Premier League’s (KPL) side AFC Leopards (Ingwe).
Several leaders, including Deputy President William Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, have consoled with the family as they go through a trying moment of grief.
They eulogized him as an ardent and religious supporter of Kenyan football, who was an apple of an eye to many.
DP Ruto: “We are heartbroken by the loss of the ever-present AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars longstanding fan Isaac Juma. He was a friendly, ever-jovial, and passionate soccer supporter. Our thoughts are with the family and soccer fraternity during this painful time. Rest In Peace, Juma.”
Musalia Mudavadi: “I am saddened by the death of our @AFCLeopards & @Harambee__Stars ardent fan, Isaac Juma. The late was an ever-present face on the terraces working up fans, and his energy was a motivation to the boys on the pitch. May his family, friends, and relatives find peace, as his soul RIP.”
