Not even the rains could stop Deputy President William Ruto from acknowledging greetings from his supporters in Kisii County this afternoon.
Dr. Ruto was spotted preaching his ‘hustler’ and bottom-up economic model to the locals as the rain poured. He did not get an umbrella, perhaps copying his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, who in 2017 campaigned in the rains in Nyahururu, Nyandarua county.
Hundreds of residents showed up in large numbers in different towns to welcome the second in command.
In his speech, the DP insisted that the next government, which he hopes to form, must prioritise the common man.
He stressed that the only way to grow the economy is by giving a conducive environment for small and medium businesses to thrive.
“The Huster Nation’s priority is the creation of jobs and expansion of business opportunities through the establishment of a friendly investment environment. I urge the millions of young people to come out and register as voters so that they can define their destiny,” he said.
The country’s number two also opened the office block of the Bomachoge Chache Constituency Development funds.
The locals also gifted him bananas, one of the food crops in the area.
Earlier in Kisii town, there was fracas after a group of young people tried to heckle the DP.
The youths chanted pro-ODM party slogans and affirmed their support for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
However, the police calmed the situation and the second in command was able to meet his supporters.
Some of the areas he visited include Tendere, Ogembo, Ikoba, Tabaka, Nyachenge and Kenyenya.
