Deputy President William Ruto had a bad in the office earlier on Saturday after driving into a venue only to be welcomed by empty seats.
The DP arrived at AIC Kathonzweni church in Makueni during the morning hours, but the worshippers and the locals had not shown up.
With opponents sharing pictures of empty seats from the function, the church and UDA local leaders were forced to do quick mobilisation to save the DP from embarrassment.
The service continued later after some residents turned up. But due to low turnout, Ktn News reported that organizers had to invite students from Kathonzweni secondary school to fill the many empty seats that had not been occupied.
Dr. Ruto commissioned a bus that had been purchased through a fundraiser.
In his speech, the second in command warned against rigging the 2022 presidential election, saying that leaders come from God.
Thereafter, he addressed roadside rallies Symile and Kya Mbeke areas where he drummed up support for his bottom-up economic model, explaining that its implementation will create millions of jobs for young people.
“Leaders must rally the people to work together even in an election year and seek solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans, including unemployment, unaffordable credit to small businesses, failing agriculture, and high cost of healthcare.
“Our leaders must shun violence and instead offer genuine leadership that will unite the people and rebuild our country,” he said.
Earlier this week, the DP, while in Machakos County, trolled Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying his hair was receding for making wrong political choices.
Critics said Kathozweni residents snubbed Ruto’s Saturday event because he insulted their son.
