Deputy President William Ruto was snubbed during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens missing a chance to address guests in a national event for the first time.

In similar events of such stature, the Deputy President takes charge of the programme. He invites speakers, then makes his remarks before inviting the President to speak to the nation.

In a move that caught many unaware, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded national honours for outstanding service rendered to the nation to various individuals among them former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita then took charge of the event.

President Uhuru proceeded to invite visiting Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio to make some brief remarks before customarily starting his speech with the signature, fellow Kenyans phrase.

He didn’t even acknowledge the Deputy President’s presence at the event as their political differences intensifies.

In deed it was an eventful Madaraka Day for DP Ruto. Earlier in the morning, President Uhuru had hosted the Cabinet for a brief meeting at State House where he thanked them for their support during his tenure.

While the meeting was ongoing, the Deputy President was at Uhuru Gardens receiving guests, with sources indicating that he had not been invited.

And while President Uhuru took the platform to highlight the successes of his 10-year tenure, it was the military who stole the show with a magnificent display of their military paraphernalia as they bid farewell to the Head of State who was presiding over his last national event.
