The Deputy President William Ruto has been crowned the Kalenjin Kingpin following the death of the former Head of State Mzee Daniel Arap Moi.
It has emerged that the second in command visited Kapsisiywa village in Nandi County to grace an accession ceremony led by the area elders chairman, retired Anglican cleric Rev. James Baasi where he was inaugurated as the Kalenjin kingpin and not for traditional cleansing as earlier reported.
Rev. Baasi revealed that the traditional ceremony where Talai Elders Council crowned DP Ruto as the new Kalenjin Kingpin lasted for one hour with Christian symbols and prayers being the order if the day.
“According to Kalenjin tradition, one would naturally abdicate the enthronement upon their demise. After Moi’s death, the royal regalia now needed a suitable successor to be handed over to through a legitimate ceremony. Friday’s ceremony was however an abridged version blended with strong Christian/biblical symbols and prayers,” Rev. Baasi stated.
Baasi further cleared the air on Kalenjin clan being associated with sorcery and witchcraft as claimed earlier.
“We know that the function started very early in the morning according to our culture and this locked many people from attending the ceremony but it is very sad to see people speculate and brand us as sorcerers,” he maintained.
