Deputy President William Ruto has lit the internet after joining Kenyans in celebrating ODM leader Raila Odinga’s 77th birthday.
Posting on his social media platforms, the second in command wished the former Prime Minister a long life.
“Happy birthday Jakom. May you be blessed with many more @RailaOdinga,” he wrote.
Netizens were at marveled at the DP’s choice of words. For the first time in many weeks, he addressed the opposition chief in kind words.
Many Kenyans noted that they were inspired by the DP’s message and would emulate him moving forward. They acknowledged that politics should not breed hatred and divisions.
Brian Kosgei stated: “Maturity at its best. Everyone must give credit to Raila Odinga. I believe besides politics baba is a good man.”
Bonny K’ochieng, a tweep wrote: “Thank you, Mr. Deputy President. This is the Kenya we want.”
Ruto and Raila are the leading presidential contenders in the coming General Election.
In their campaign trails, they have been throwing jibes at each other, but the DP decided today is not a day to confront his main challenger.
Several other leaders allied to DP have also penned down their birthday notes to the AU Special Envoy on Roads and Infrastructure.
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga: “Happy 77th birthday Jakom.”
UDA Chairman Johnstone Muthama: “Happy birthday Jakom Raila Odinga. The Hustler Nation wishes you good health as you celebrate your special day.”
Equally, ODM politicians flooded the internet with their messages to their mentor.
Edwin Sifuna jotted down: “To my political father, mentor, and teacher, Happy Birthday. Many of us owe you a debt of gratitude for creating the space to learn and grow under your tutelage and for always putting the country above yourself.”
