Deputy President William Ruto’s close
confidant and Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has broken his
silence after reports indicated that his offices and home had been raided by
detectives with millions recovered.
Addressing the press over the weekend, the
embattled MP who is facing investigations for receiving more than Sh 5.8
billion in questionable dealings insisted that although he is a man of able
means, he is yet to join the billionaires club.
He also dismissed claims that he had been
involved in questionable dealings in which he acquired Sh 5.8 billion shillings
from various state agencies, counties and his own Mathira constituency.
He also dismissed claims that a raid took place at his home stating; “I slept in my home…the media is pushing narratives that are nonsensical.”
“I am an innocent man and in the fullness of
time will be vindicated. I have not taken anything from anybody and should
anyone have any evidence, to table it before the court.” Added the MP.
EACC conducted investigations and established
that the law maker had received more than 5.8 billion in cash, and moved in to
freeze more than 200M shillings in his account.
According to the Assets and Recovery Agency, Rigathi
was involved in money laundering scheme, thereby receiving huge sums of money
as proceeds of the crime.
In a court proceeding the ARA stated that “There are reasonable grounds
to believe that the suspect’s bank accounts were used as a conduit for money
laundering in efforts to conceal, disguise the nature, source, disposition and
movement of illicit funds and should be preserved”.
