Murang’a county executive committee member for health and sanitation Joseph Mbai has asked a senate committee to stop politicising matters touching on health. They are accusing Senator Irungu Kang’ata for lobbying to have the present technical team ignored by senators. The senate committee on Health did not allow a technical team from Murang’a to answer audit questions which were raised concerning the utilisation of Covid-19 funds.
The technical team, which handles the health docket in Murang’a they were not allowed to respond to the queries before the committee since Governor Mwangi wa Iria was not available. Senators who are members of the committee denied the team a chance to answer the audit queries as they demanded the presence of the governor. The team was denied a chance to answer the questions asked and were instead turned away by the senate committee chair Trans Nzoia senator Michael Mbito.
The Auditor General had raised queries on how the money which was sent to the county to fight Covid-19 was utilised without being factored in the budget and a proper procurement plan. Other queries were on how donations from wellwishers and organisations to the county were utilised. During the meeting, Kang’ata joined the committee and demanded to have Governor Wa Iria present when answering the questions. The technical team wondered aloud as to why, instead of the senator supporting them to get a chance to answer the questions, he fueled the disagreement which saw them not being given a chance.
