Drama as man in Sh4 billion case appears in court half-naked

Drama in court as an accused person in the Shs4.1billion Lake Basin graft case appeared in virtual court while half naked.

Fredrick Onyango Chere appeared wearing a white vest during the pre-trial in which former Kisumu county speaker and others were appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

Professor Tom
Ojienda asked the magistrate to compel the accused to dress properly as the
court ethics demand on the dressing code of accused persons.

Ogoti then ordered
the accused to log out of the virtual session and dress properly.

In the case, Kisumu
County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo, former Lake Basin Development Authority
(LBDA) Managing Director Peter Anguko Abuok and Bobasi Member of Parliament
Innocent Obiri Momanyi were charged last year with Ksh.4.1 billion graft
charges.

They appeared
before a Nairobi anti-corruption court over the Lake basin mall scandal where
Mr. Oloo was freed on a cash bail of Ksh.6 million and a warrant of arrest
against him lifted, while Mr. Abuok and Mr. Momanyi were each released on
Ksh.10 million cash bail.

The accused
persons were charged with offences of engaging in a project without prior
planning, willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement as
well as abuse of office among other charges.

The matter will be mentioned on 6th may 2021.
