“Dune” leads BAFTA award nominations

The movie premiered in Kenyan cinemas in October 2021.

Science fiction, fantasy Dune has received 11 nominations from the upcoming British Academy Film & Television  Awards (BAFTAs).

The film is nominated alongside other well-known movies including Netflix’s The Power of The Dog which comes in second with 8 nominations.

Dune is nominated in the categories of Best Film, Best Original Score, Best Editing, Special Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design and Best Casting.

The film premiered in Kenyan cinemas in October and on the streaming platform HBO Max. The epic first instalment of the movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve and spins an intricate tale about authoritarian rule, set in a fantasy world of messiahs, an all-women order of spies, scientists, nuns, giant sandworms and noble houses fighting for an important commodity called spice. The second instalment is due sometime in 2023.

The Frank Herbert 1965 novel adaptation stars young stars Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet alongside Oscar Isaacs, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Stellan Skarsgård.

The BAFTAs are scheduled to take place on March 13th.
