Earthquake Eating Its Children: Mudavadi Calls Out UDA, Gachagua Over Running Mate Dilemma

Amani National Congress (ANC) of Musalia Mudavadi has reprimanded criticised Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua for talking on behalf of the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

In a statement, ANC Secretary-General Samuel Gikuru claims that Gachagua is spending falsehoods about an agreement among parties in Kenya Kwanza. The coalition is made up of the United Democratic Alliance of Deputy President William Ruto, Mudavadi’s ANC, and Ford-Kenya (Moses Wetangula).

Gikuru told the lawmaker to stop making careless utterances and wait for official communication from the principals.

“The Kenya Kwanza coalition was mooted on the strength of shared ideologies pegged on economic revival, social justice, political tranquility, and entrenched nationalism.

“Our primary objective as Kenya Kwanza, bringing together UDA, ANC and Ford-Kenya. is to put our country together and erase ethnic animosity through mature politics devoid of toxic divisive narratives,” he said.

Gachagua is on record as saying that Ruto is the automatic Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate. He added that the running mate post is a reserve for the Mt Kenya region.

According to the ANC Secretary-General, the remarks by the Mathira legislator are unfortunate and regrettable.

He challenged Gachagua to stop embedding ethnic balkanisation and look at the bigger picture.

“It is, therefore, our considered opinion that Rigathi Gachagua should transition from regional UDA mindset to embrace the broader picture of Kenya Kwanza philosophy.

“Kenya Kwanza has not decided on its presidential and running mate candidates. This will happen and be unveiled at an appropriate time by our leaders Musalia Mudavadi, William Ruto, and Moses Wetangula,” Gikuru said.

Gachagua is reportedly lobbying for the running mate position.

Mudavadi announced his partnership with Ruto on January 23 in an event he had christened as “ANC earthquake”.
