Election officials were forced to move the ongoing UDA nominations exercise to the nearby centre in Makunga, Kakamega county

Election officials for the ongoing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations were forced to move the exercise to a nearby market after they were clocked out of an assigned polling station.

The officials who had woken up early enough to conduct the exercise at Makunga Secondary School in Kakamega County were forced to first delay the exercise after the school’s principal failed to show up at the institution to open its gates.

“We had hoped to conduct the nominations at the Makunga Secondary School but unfortunately when we went to the school, we found that the school’s principal was not around,” the station’s returning officer said.

The officer told the media that their effort to reach the principal bore no fruits since the said school head switched off his phone.

He said that due to the time factor and the fact that they were tired of waiting on the teacher to arrive, they were forced to take the polling centre to the nearest marketplace.

“We were forced to move to this market after we couldn’t reach the principal and the time was also not on our side. Instead of looking around for places, we thought it would be wise to come here (the market) as we look for other alternatives,” he said.

Adding: “Otherwise people who have come here have done a good job and everything is going on as planned. The security officers have also done a good job to ensure everything goes on very well.”
