Former Youth Principal Secretary (PS) Lilian Omollo who is facing graft charges in the Ksh 9 billion National Youth Service scandal has declared her interest to vie for Embu Senatorial seat in the forthcoming polls.
Ms. Omollo who was speaking from her rural home in Rukira village in Manyatta Constituency, Embu, on Tuesday after a meeting with her grassroots supporters has been out of the public limelight since 2018 when she was implicated in the mega corruption case.
The former PS who since then opted for a low-key life has put up a spirited fight to prove her innocence over the graft charges leveled against her alongside 34 others.
However the embattled former PS declined to comment on the case facing her and how it could affect her bid and chose to stick to what she plans to offer the people of Embu in terms of development.
With regard to the party she will be contesting on Ms. Omollo said she was still in consultation with her supporters and will in a week’s time name her party of choice.
Ms. Omollo who joins an already jammed race that has attracted eight other candidates said she will inject fresh energy and progressive leadership acquired from her over two decades experience in public service as well as the private sector.
“I have a lot of experience, knowledge on issues of public service and financial management and I do not think there is any aspirant in Embu who fits that bill,” Ms. Omollo said while defending her candidature.
She continued: “I think it’s time I use what is in my head to help my people by ensuring the County gets its rightful share of funds from the National Government,” she said.
