An Embu ward representative who pledged to take a Sh100, 000 paycut and offer his salary to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic until the contagion is effectively arrested is regretting. According to sources, deputy speaker Steve Simba by then had the perception, the virus will only take a month but is now surprised it is likely to take long. Simba wanted to play politics but is now worried he is likely to lose millions going with the current events. Simba boasted of how, he had already released the first tranche of the funds as contained in his March 2019 salary for disinfection of Runyenjes market and bus terminus, saying he was willing to offer more humanitarian support to the needy. Speaking during a county assembly plenary sitting, Simba confirmed that he had already sponsored the disinfection of several markets in Runyenjes constituency, purchased facemasks, hand sanitisers and gloves for boda boda riders and also provided food aid to several needy families in the first phase of his intervention to cushion
the people against the adverse effects of the coronavirus pandemic. However, investigations by Weekly Citizen has established, he just did it one day and only few benefited.

Makima Ward MCA Philip Nzangi

Since then he has gone underground. The Runyenjes Central MCA in his usual political gimmicks had challenged MCAs, MPs and senators from the Eastern Kenya region to borrow leaf. Makima MCA Philip Nzangi was against Simba move. Now it is said, the con Simba is finding solace in a move by Embu ward representatives to boost the county emergency kitty with an extra Sh7million, availing a total of Sh29million for the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The MCAs enacted the supplementary appropriations Bill also sacrificed Sh100 million worth of ward projects and also slashed allocations to infrastructural projects and bursaries to allow the county government to hire more healthcare personnel in the quest to combat Covid-19. Infact it is the same Simba who moved the motion for adoption of the proposals to reallocate funds for utilisation to save his face among the electorate.
