Emotions ran high in the Muririchwa area, the Gilgil sub-county in Nakuru during the burial of Nakuru doctor, James Gakara and his two children, whom he was accused of killing.

The children, Dylan, five and three-year-old Karuana shared a grave while their father was interred in a separate grave.

Interestingly, the graves were covered with soil and instead were cemented with tiles and a slab placed at the top.

The doctor’s widow, Winnie Odhiambo said she has lost a man who never let her down and children who brought so much joy into her life.

“They were beautiful souls,” the heartbroken mother said.
The gynecologist’s eldest daughter, Agnes Njeri, whom he sired with ex-wife, said she has lost a mentor and wonderful step-siblings.

“My father ensured I got the best education. I am grateful for his presence and no matter what happens, he will remain my friend,” Njeri said.

The bodies of the minors were found at their parents’ home in Nakuru’s Milimani Estate on September 18. Gakara was in the same house, but unconscious.

He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nakuru Level Five Hospital before succumbing on September 22.

It is suspected that he injected the children with a lethal drug before turning the same on himself.

An autopsy report showed that he might have died due to a foreign substance that was ingested into his body. However, it could be established whether he injected himself with the drug.

A postmortem on the body of Dylan and Karuana did not reveal what caused their deaths. Samples were taken at Government Chemist for more analysis.
