Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko branded “Recording Artist” by netizens will now feel the effects of the change of Twitter policies.
This follows after Twitter set forth to protect the identities of private individuals by issuing a ban on sharing sensitive content. This move was reached after Twitter noted a rise in the cases of intimidation amongst its users.
Twitter Inc announced on Tuesday, November 30, that it will not allow sharing of private details and media of individuals without their consent.
”Beginning today (Tuesday), we will not allow the sharing of private media, such as images or videos of private individuals without their consent.”
“Publishing people’s private info is also prohibited under the policy, as is threatening or incentivizing others to do so,” the statement read.
Twitter urges affected persons to report media that infringe their privacy accompanying a piece of satisfactory evidence that proves that they are the persons being targeted.
”To be clear, we require a first-person report or a report by an authorized representative of the photo or video in question. After we receive a report, that particular media will be reviewed before any enforcement action is taken,” the statement read.
However, journalists are immune to this policy when they share investigative media that contain useful information which is important to the public.
Recently, Sonko has been the talk of the town after sharing several perceptive videos capturing Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu, Mary Nkatha, and High Court Judge Justice Chitembwe.
In the videos, Sonko accuses the trio of various damning allegations while exposing the rot in the judiciary, with claims that the juridical arm was marred with corruption and favoritism.
