Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced an increase in fuel prices.
In a statement on Thursday, 14th April, the regulatory authority revised pump prices across all products with super petrol, diesel, and kerosene prices rising by Ksh9.90 each per litre.
The authority attributed the increase in fuel prices to a rise in the average landing costs of the products.
According to EPRA, the average landing cost of super petrol had increased by 20 per cent, while that of diesel increased by 24.7 per cent. The landing cost of kerosine had increased by 11.84 per cent.
However, EPRA said that the government would utilise the petroleum development levy to cushion customers from the unusually high prices.
With the new adjustment, a litre of super petrol in Nairobi will now retail at Ksh144.62, diesel at Ksh125.50 while kerosine will retail at Ksh113.44.
In Mombasa, a litre of petrol will go for Ksh142.36, diesel Ksh123.26 and Kerosene Ksh111.19.
In Kisumu, a litre of petrol will retail at Kh145.02, diesel Kshh126.20 and Kerosene Ksh114.16) while in Nakuru a litre of Petrol will go for Ksh144.14, diesel Ksh125.33 and Kerosene Ksh113.29.
The prices announced will be in force from 15th April to 14th May.
The prices increase arises as the government seeks solutions to the ongoing fuel shortage in the country.
