EPRA Board Appoints Daniel Kiptoo as New Director General – LitKenya

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has named Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria as the new Director-General for the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Kiptoo who has been serving in an acting capacity since December last year replaces Pavel Oimeke who left the regulator earlier this year.

Oimeke who is now the Member of Parliament for Bonchari Constituency exited the state corporation while surrounded by a cloud of controversy including bribery claims.

Kiptoo’s appointment takes effect on July run with his tenure running for a three year period.

“Mr Kiptoo’s appointment follows a competitive recruitment process in which he emerged top,” said EPRA Chairman Jackton Ojwang said in a statement issued on Wednesday, 30th June.

Prior to his appointment, Kiptoo was the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum and the Chairman of the Government’s first oil committee.

Mr Kiptoo has experience in the Energy and Petroleum sectors, with a bias in policy formulation, Regulation and Project and Structured finance. He was instrumental in drafting the Energy Act, 2019 and Petroleum Act, 2019.
