Christian Eriksen will return to the Denmark national team squad for the first time since collapsing on the pitch during Euro 2020 last June.

Eriksen, 30, suffered a cardiac arrest while Denmark were facing Finland in Copenhagen.

Following the incident, Inter Milan and Eriksen agreed to cancel his contract in December because he was fitted with a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) which couldn’t allow him to play in Serie A

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder later in January joined the English Premier League side Brentford on a six-month deal.

He has since made three appearances for the Bees since making his debut as a substitute in a defeat against Newcastle United on 26th February.

Eriksen has now been named in Denmark’s 23-man squad for their upcoming friendly matches.

“Now we do not have to wait or wonder anymore. Christian Eriksen was in fact on the list of the 23 selected by national coach Kasper Hjulmand during today’s national team selection,” read a statement on the Danish football association’s website on Tuesday, 15th March.

“Thus, the Danish number 10 returns to the national team jersey for the first time since his cardiac arrest in the European Championship match against Finland on June 12.”

Denmark will face the Netherlands on 26th March and at home against Serbia on 29th March.

Denmark qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by finishing top of their group with 27 points from 10 games – four points clear of runners-up Scotland.
