Former National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drugs Abuse (Nacada) chairman and popular Nakuru county politician John Mututho has declared that he will be vying for the Nakuru county Senatorial seat in the upcoming General Election.

Speaking in an interview with Nation, Mututho said he will contest for the seat as an independent candidate.

If elected Mututho said he will renew the county’s leadership and also protect the fruits of devolution.

He also said that he will enforce proper laws that will regulate alcohol use.

“I will be running for the Nakuru Senate seat as an independent candidate. I have offered myself to contest because I believe we need renewed leadership in the Senate for Nakuru and Kenya as a whole. I want to protect the benefits of devolution,” he said.

The former Naivasha MP ran for Nakuru County governor during the 2017 elections but lost to current governor Lee Kinyanjui.

In the 9th August General Election, Muthutho will battle it with Industrialisation CAS Lawrence Karanja, veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere and Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja among others, who are all seeking to succeed outgoing Senator Susan Kihika.

Kihika has already announced her intention to succeed governor Lee Kinyanjui who is serving his second and final term.
