Former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has left the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to join the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party.

Owino who has dropped his Siaya gubernatorial bid will deputise Nicholas Gumbo who also defected from ODM to UDM ahead of the 9th August general election.

“We are all in Azimio and I have decided to shelve my ambition for the position of the governor of Siaya in 2022 to allow my older brother engineer gumbo, to lead the pack, God willing come the ninth of August, he will be our governor,” said Owino.

“The people who are supporting me and the people who are supporting Gumbo have been complaining in the last two weeks and saying they were not going to vote for Raila Odinga if I didn’t get the ticket for ODM.”

Gumbo and Owino will face off with Raila’s close ally and Siaya Senator James Orengo, Deputy Governor James Okumbe, Otieno Okanja, Ex-United Nations (UN) official Bella Akinyi, advocate George Mugoye Mbeya, and former banker Otieno Okanja.

UDM Party is headed by Mandera Governor Ali Roba. Former Standard Group editor David Ohito is the Party’s Secretary-General.

Both UDM and ODM are affiliate parties within the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
