Manchester United star, Mason Greenwood, has been arrested following online trolls that he had allegedly raped and threatened to kill a woman.
The 20-year old was arrested after the Greater Manchester Police was notified about the posts by the woman who had Greenwood of sexual assault.
The woman supported her quest for justice by accompanying the posts on Instagram with shreds of evidence, including a video, voice notes, and photos. These were later deleted.
“Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.
“He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow.
“Following inquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.”
Following this development, World’s sportswear giant Nike has cut-off partnership ties with the player, terming the accusations as ‘disturbing allegations”.
English Premier League’s (EPL) side Manchester United has also suspended the player and will no longer join other players during training sessions until the case is heard and determined.
Greenwood was also removed from the highly popular video game FIFA 22’s offline modes, with the forward no longer available in the United squad.
Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United ends in 2025 after a renewal, last year.
