The Kenyan government has been directed by the World football governing body, FIFA, to reinstate the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials who have been thrown out of office.
In a letter addressed to Sports CS Amina Mohamed on Sunday, 14th November, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura asked the sports ministry to reinstate all suspended FKF officials as they look to settle the dispute between the two parties.
“Going forward, without prejudice to the allegations that have been raised and any potential lawsuits for infringements that may have been committed, FIFA and CAF ask you to consider reinstating the FKF executive committee before that”, partially indicates the letter.
“Fifa and Caf administrators are prepared to work closely with the FKF and your office representatives – as it has already been the case in the recent past – to normalize the situation. I am convinced that our common efforts together with your trust will guarantee a successful outcome for Kenyan football.
Fifa has further called for urgent discussions through a video conference with CS Amina and FKF team to solve the dispute between the two parties.
“Against this background, I call on your understanding of the matter at stake to reconsider your position in the light of our aforementioned principles so as to make sure the latter are respected with regard to the situation at the FKF,” the statement continued.
“As a matter of fact, I am receptive to the need of a common discussion through a video conference call that we may organize without further ado, My collaborators will contact your office accordingly to settle the logistical details as soon as possible.”
Nick Mwendwa’s led team was ejected from office on Thursday, 11th November after CS Amina received a report on financial impropriety at the federation.
The CS had appointed a 15-member committee that would run football in the country for six months, pending investigations into the matter.
Mwendwa was arrested on Friday evening, 12th November, and taken to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road, Nairobi, for grilling.
FKF Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Barry Otieno, was also arrested by detectives on Saturday, 13th November.
