A former radio and TV presenter has caused an uproar on social media after alluding that media stations have been conning their fans through gambling.
DJ Chris Stylus, who was fired from Mediamax Network Limited in 2019, put a question to his fans on Facebook.
He wanted to know if any of them have ever from the many lotteries and prize competitions advertised daily.
“My fans, do you play these gambles on radio and TV? Did you win?” he posed.
In their hundreds, netizens opened up about how they have been playing without winning anything.
Many said they gave up after trying so many times without success.
The former Kameme TV and Kameme Fm presenter-cum-DJ lamented that parents have now become gamblers as a result of “lies” from radio and TV personalities.
“Nowadays you send your parents some money and in the next minute, they have gambled all. They are conning even the elderly,” he said.
He advised his fans to stop going for quick money and work hard.
“People must work hard. I cannot continue sending money to my parents only for them to bet.
However, some Kenyans argued that Stylus was ranting because he lost his job. They claimed that even when he was a radio and TV employee the lotteries were still happening.
He denied the claims, saying that he has never promoted gambling in his career.
Some implored him to avoid attacking the media, as such may reduce his chances of being hired again.
He told off critics, saying he is a hard-working Kenyans and does not need to be employed again.
“I benefited my employers more than they did to me by placing advertisements,” he said.
Stylus runs a successful deejaying school and several other companies.
Two months ago, the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) barred radio stations from running unauthorised lotteries.
