Former Barcelona and Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o was on Saturday elected as the new Cameroon Football Association president.

The legendary African footballer was declared winner of the elections after defeating outgoing President, Seydou Mbombo Njoya.

Some five candidates who had been presupposed to contest the elections, pulled out of the election, leaving solely Eto’o and Mbombo to run for the place.

Eto’o managed 43 votes against Mbombo who garnered 31.

Reacting to his victory on Twitter, Eto’o said: I’ll be remembering today as one of the proudest moments of my life. I’m deeply grateful for to be elected as the new president of @FecafootOfficie.

“Every vote represents the energy and ambition of our football family to take our beloved sport to a level we’ve never seen before.”

Eto’o will now be head of Cameroon’s FA (Fecafoot) for a period of five years.
