Former Water Cabinet Secretary and Nyandarua gubernatorial aspirant Sicily Kariuki has stepped down from the race.

Addressing the media at Jubilee headquarters on Thursday, 28th April, Kariuki stated that she had decided to pave way for the sitting governor after a deep soul-searching consultation.

“It’s been a lot of soul searching, consultation after another and I finally decided to sacrifice. Leadership is about sacrifice, you cannot lead people without sacrificing and dropping my bid does not in any way mean I have no power, I will take another action and will serve Nyandarua people at another level,” she said.

She also said that she would continue to support Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition and its presidential candidate Raila Odinga to ensure success in the 9th August polls.

“I will continue to support the Jubilee party and Azimio coalition and the candidates vying at the County, regional and national level,” CS Kariuki stated.

In February, Kariuki resigned as the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation as stipulated in the law for public servants seeking a political position.

“This is a position of planning, consulting, and of asking the what-if questions. When my campaigns kick-off, you will know more,” CS Kariuki said then.

“I’m humbled by the achievements attained in my ministry so far. I am going to take my leadership experience which spans over 30 years to Nyandarua.”

Following her exit incumbent Governor Francis Kimemia will now defend his seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
