Former KTN journalist Jamal Gaddafi has ditched the Malindi Constituency parliamentary race.

Announcing his step down, the former Iwake Show host stated that he reached the decision after deep introspection and advice from several stakeholders and his team.

“I have withdrawn my candidature for the Malindi MP race due to unavoidable reasons and after consulting widely,” he stated on his social media pages.

Jamal quit his job at the Standard Media Group-owned station with ambitions of becoming a Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) under the ODM ticket after the 2022 polls slated for August.

He had worked in KTN for eight years. He hosted his last show on January 29, 2022, then penned an emotional message to persons of interest, thanking them for support which had invited success in his media career.

“It’s time for a new adventure…I start a new chapter of my life in politics. What an epic 8 years. Thank you to everyone who supported me and my shows. Let’s go out big!” his message read.

He resigned following a directive from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), which demanded all journalists seeking elective seats in the General Elections to bow out before February.

“As it applies in the public service, where civil servants intending to vie for political office are required to leave office six months to elections and are under strict edicts not to use their space and influence to campaign for political office, the media is no exception,” MCK had announced.
