Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara on Monday relinquished his position as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) national treasurer.

Announcing his resignation, Magara said the UDA party lacked democracy.

“For a very long time I have harboured and ambitioned to be the Kisii County governor through the UDA party where I was also the national treasurer. There has since been developments that render my candidature through the UDA party impossible,” said Magara.

The former legislator noted that he had consulted his supporters, friends and family before making decision to quit the party.

My political future and ambitions cannot be sufficiently addressed by the UDA party. I therefore immediately resign as a party member and as the treasurer,” he said.

“This has been such a heavy decision to make, as we must always allow the voice of the people we seek to lead to prevail over and above personal ambitions,” said Magara.

Magara said that he is ready to engage with other like-minded parties ahead of the August 9th General Elections.

He thanked those who have supported his political journey, promising to be more resilient and honest to his supporters whom he has served with humility and distinction.
