Four people have been charged with conspiracy to defraud a Botswana businessman Sh4.6 million in fake gold claim.
Masamba Yusuf Libano, Hillary Wanjiru Mwangi, Joseph Muinde Musyoki and Hosea Ruto were charged alongside a company- Masamba Zion Mountain Limited- before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitimbwi and denied the fraud charges.
They are accused of jointly conspiring to defraud Botswana businessman Richard Chibanda on December 6 2020 in Nairobi.
The court heard that the accused persons conspired to defraud Chibanda, the director Delta PTU of Sh4,670,000 by means of fraudulent tricks.
It is alleged that they falsely pretended that they were engaged in a genuine gold business and were in a position to sell and export 10 kilograms of gold.
Masamba and the company were also accused of obtaining the money from Chibanda by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell and export 10kgs of gold on December 6, 2021.
They were released on a bond of Sh2 million each with alternative cash bail of Sh1 million each. The court also ordered them to provide one contact person each.
