Four people killed after vehicle runs over IED in Garissa

At least four people were confirmed dead Thursday after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Dagega, Garissa County.

During the incident, four occupants died on the spot while another person survived with serious injuries.

The vehicle was carrying five officials from Garissa Water Department who were headed to Masalani for Garissa when they were attacked along the border between Bura East and Hulugho sub-county.

Confirming the incident, DCC Bura East Thomas Bett said the attacked happened at around 12:30 pm.

“We received information that there were people from Garissa who headed to Masalani from Garissa to do a contraction work in a water pan who were attacked by an IED along the border between Bura East and Hulugho Sub-County,” he said.

“Information reaching us is that four of them passed on while one sustained serious injuries,” he confirmed.

The bodies were taken to Sangailu awaiting post mortem.

This comes barely a week after the two subsequent attacks that happened in Mandera and Wajir counties.

Local residents have been urged to work closely with security officials and report incidents of insecurity.
