Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’ has the highest mentions for leaders who can be the next president in future, according to the research firm, Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA).
The tough-talking CS beat Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua in the national survey TIFA research conducted between November 7 and November 13, 2021.
Matiang’i clocked 22%, while Mutua came second at 18%.

They were followed by Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Hassan Joho (Mombasa) at 12% and 8%, respectively.
Others were former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth (8%), NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua (3%), Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria (2%), Embakasi East MP Babu Owino (2%) and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana (2%).
On Saturday, October 23, TUKO.co.ke reported that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga revealed he had planned to endorse Matiang’i for the presidency in 2022.
Speaking on Friday, October 22, in Nyamira, where delegates had hosted him, Raila suggested that he had given up on his quest to occupy the top office, resorting to playing the kingmaker role.
This time settling on Matiang’i for the top job.
However, Raila said the CS chose not to go for the seat at own volition.

On his part, Matiang’i said he bowed out following the directive from his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who asked him (Matiang’i) to rally behind the ODM chief.
The research firm further indicated that since the mid-last year, the proportion of Kenyans who believe that Raila is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred success increased, even if fewer than half of them hold this view.

Still, a full one-third are uncertain about who he would like Kenya’s next president to be (33%).
