Education CS George Magoha has said only three teacher’s training colleges are ready for re-opening in September after meeting the requisite percentage marks on putting in place COVID-19 containment measures recommended by the Ministry of Health.
The tough-talking CS revealed Murang’a Teachers Training College (80%) , Kericho TTC (70%) and Asumbi Teachers Training College (65%) had met the threshold for re-opening after setting up the necessary infrastructure needed to curb the rapid spread of the pandemic.
Speaking at Asumbi Teachers Training College in Homa Bay county on Saturday, July 18, the CS warned education institutions that would not have met the conditions in September won’t be allowed to operate.

He also disclosed no university had been cleared for re-opening as they had not met the measures set by the Ministry of Health.
All institutions of learning were closed in March following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
He on July 1 stated that through a coordinated collection of views from parents, their position was very firm that they did not want schools reopened until the COVID-19 curve was flattened.
He attributed their decision to the advice given by the medical experts who had informed them that reopening in September would not be a good idea because that is when the cases were likely to increase and reduce at around January.
