Gary Neville: No Hiding Place For Ole After Liverpool Battering

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has admitted that United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no hiding place after his sorry side was whitewashed 5-0 by old foes Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Goals from Naby Keita, Diogo Jota and a historical hat – trick from Mohammed Salah further compounded pressure on an already under siege Solskjaer.

Calls for the Norwegian coach’s sacking were revived again at first half in the Sunday’s fixture when the hosts were trailing the mighty Reds 4-0 at the Theatre of Dreams.

At some point with 25 minutes left on the clock, thousands of Manchester United supporters were seen leaving Old Trafford after they apparently could not contain what was unfolding right before their eyes.

In relation to the heavy drubbing, club legendary right back Gary Neville said on Sky Sport live commentary that Solskjaer is now in for the sack.

“There’s no doubt the manager will get an absolute battering. There will be calls for his head like you wouldn’t believe but you wonder what this defeat will do to the players. How will they pick themselves up?

“There’s no hiding place after this. United are going to be absolutely demoralised. The next 24 hours is going to be as hot as it has ever been at this football club.”

The football pundit further explained that pressure after the Sunday’s thumping is actually going to be unbearable.

“The pressure after this game is going to be intolerable in some quarters,” the former Manchester United captain said on co-commentary during the Super Sunday thrashing.

Manchester United have now gone four Premier League matches without a win and despite that, Solskjaer has been receiving back up from Man United’s board.

However, Neville added that the Sunday’s outcome is an eye opener to the board regarding the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

“The board have made everyone aware that they are steadfast in their support of the manager and that he stays. Results like this undermine that, there’s no doubt. This is sobering.”

Manchester United are placed 7th in the league standings with 14 points in 9 outings this season. Neville said United need to change going forward.

“Manchester United need to change. I believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to get the opportunity to change. But there is going to be pressure from every source.”

Manchester United will next lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur in yet another trying moment for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his seat gets hotter by the day.
