The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has endorsed Homabay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga as the party’s preferred gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming August 9th elections.
As such, the party has handed Wanga a direct nomination certificate after 7 other aspirants who had expressed interest in the seat stepped down in her favour.
ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga says the decision was arrived at following extensive consultations among the aspirants.
Raila also revealed that former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga will be Wanga’s running mate.
“Aspirants for the Homabay Governorship position invited us to their meeting, they have agreed to step aside and support Wanga, as a party we have taken note and issued the certificate to her as the party’s candidate in August,” He said.
The decision comes barely a week after ODM Chairman John Mbadi withdrew from the race saying he will instead focus on campaigning for Raila in his presidential bid.
Reports indicate that former Nairobi Governor Evans wasn’t among those who withdrew their candidature, with sources saying Kidero will seek an alternative party as his political vehicle.
Others who have expressed interest in the seat include Kuppet Secretary General Akello Misori and businessmen Jared Kiasa.
