Gmail is Becoming a Jack of All Trades, Will Now Make Voice and Video Calls – TechMoran

Google has been releasing regular updates to its Workspace suite of applications, and one of the most recent is an improvement in collaboration between Google Meet and the Gmail App.

Google is adding the ability to ring another user on Google Meet from within the Gmail App in a Gmail redesign that will be available in the coming weeks. In addition, Gmail users will be able to join Google Meet meetings.

In late 2020, Google redesigned and rebranded its suite of office applications from G suite to Google Workspace. Workspace has since received new and regular updates, ranging from Google Docs to Calendar and even Google Drive. Ultimately, they hope to connect all of the apps in the suite, allowing for seamless switching between them and information sharing across all of them.

Gmail already supports a wide range of functions, from emails to chats and videoconferencing. The addition of the “ring” capability strengthens Gmail’s position as the primary channel for Google’s communication services. When it is released, Gmail will function similarly to Hangouts or any other VOIP app, allowing users to make calls when they have a working internet connection.

While Gmail appears to be a communication hub comparable to what Microsoft Outlook provides, Google Workspace will be pushing out competition from work-oriented platforms such as Zoom and Slack. In the future, the Google Meet application will not only be used to create meetings but also to make phone calls.

The ease of use of these fully integrated services is an appealing feature of the ever-expanding digital workspace, and Google continues to roll out ambitious features to meet these needs.
