Kenyan Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia are set to instal Mark Simon Harrison as their new head coach for a two-year deal.

The 60-year-old Englishman will replace Portuguese tactician Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto, who resigned recently.

Vaz Pinto became the K’Ogalo coach in January, succeeding Brazilian tactician Roberto Oliveira, who was sacked in December for lack of the coaching papers required to oversee Caf matches.

The Portuguese left the club after winning the FKF Cup against rivals AFC Leopards. K’Ogalo beat Ingwe 4-1 on post-match penalties at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi, on 4th July.

The former St George SC tactician had also won the Coach of the Month Award for May, beating KCB’s Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems to the award.

Gor Mahia’s executive committee picked Harrison after interviewing a number of candidates for the job.

“We had many applicants but we decided to pick Mark Harrison, as the man understands the African football environment, having worked with a number of teams previously. Language was another factor we considered as well as experience as a coach,’’ Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier told Citizen TV.

Harrison has previously coached Black Leopards, Chippa United and Golden Arrows of South Africa, Botswana’s Township Rollers, Harare City, and The Highlanders of Zimbabwe.
