The government has announced the resumption of night travel in the country after a suspension that lasted over a year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued on Friday, 22nd October Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia gave the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators green light to resume the operations.
CS Macharia however, maintained that all Covid-19 protocols as outlined by the Ministry of Health.
“We are encouraging members of the transport fraternity to embrace Covid-19 vaccination in line with the sector,” he said.
“I thank the leadership and the workers in the transport sector for their relentless support to the government efforts of mitigating the spread of the Covid-19 virus.”
The announcement comes just two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the 10 pm to 4 am nationwide curfew during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Wang’uru Stadium, Kirinyaga County, on Wednesday, 20th October.
President Kenyatta said the decision to lift the curfew was made following the declining rate of Covid-19 infections.
“I have noted with much appreciation that the surge of infections has declined over the last two weeks as characterised by the positivity rate of below five per cent that has been registered over this period,” he said.
“In the same regards and by the authority vested, I hereby order and direct that the nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew that has been in effect from March 27, 2020, is hereby vacated with immediate effect.”
The dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
