Campaigns for the position of Nyamira county women representative has kicked off in earnest with the governor’s wife Naomi Nyagarama declaring interest for the seat held by Jubilee’s Jerusha Momanyi.
Sources close to Naomi disclosed that with Governor Nyagarama preparing for his retirement, Naomi wants to hang on in the corridors of power so as to protect and monitor the legacy of the county boss.

“After inquiring from us on who is strong in the race for the position of county women representative, she indicated that her name will be on the ballot because there are several projects which are disturbing her and which she feels should be implemented if she is elected,” said the source.
During the last polls, several candidates including former nominated MP Catherine Nyamato, Annet Nyakerario, Janet Kumenda, Nancy Onsongo, Grace Nyamongo, Yunia Nyanduko, Mary Matini competed against the former holder of the seat Alice Chae but Jerusha came out tops.
Since then, things have changed with Kumenda indicating she is eyeing the North Mugirango parliamentary seat held by Joash Nyamoko of Jubilee while Nyamato, Nyamongo and Matini have been quiet about their next political moves.
If Naomi keeps to the words from her supporters and enters the race, then it will be a political battle between her, Jerusha and Nyakerario who have been attending various public functions to endear herself to the electorate.
