Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s marriage with Madina Giovanni Fazzini is tottering on the brink of collapse after she applied for divorce.
Fazzini wants the Mombasa Chief Kadhis Court to dissolve the union, citing that the county chief deserted from their matrimonial home.
The two married in February 2011 under Islamic law and were blessed with two children, a girl, and a boy. The children are aged nine and eight years, respectively.
She says Joho left in January 2013, but she continued staying at their matrimonial home until 2020.
“At all material times relevant to this suit, the petitioner (Fazzini) and the respondent (Joho) were and are still were and are still husband and wife having married under Islamic law on February 11, 2011,” she states in her affidavit.
According to her, their marriage is irredeemable and that’s why she wants it ended legally.
“I am clear and unequivocal that our marriage has broken down irretrievably with no chance of revival given we have both moved on over the years,” court papers indicate.
“Since the respondent, Joho moved out of our matrimonial home in June 2013, the substance of our marriage has dissipated and has no basis to be sustained from a legal and social standpoint.”
She attached birth certificates of the two children she sired with the former Kisauni MP.
The governor has 14 days to respond to the divorce suit.
Currently, Fazzini is living on her own with the two minors in Malindi, Kilifi County.
She was born to an Italian father and a Somali mother.
