Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has since broken his silence after his deputy Adelina Mwau joined Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

In a statement, Kibwana termed the move as a form of betrayal saying that it doesn’t affect his support for Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja Movement.

“My attention has been drawn to clandestine dealings between Adelina and UDA. She has even pledged to take with her a huge delegation of our common political friends to UDA, who declined her overtures,” Kivutha wrote on Facebook.

“I wish to categorically make it clear, Makueni people have expressed their intention to support Azimio La Umoja and will not be hoodwinked by people seeking self-aggrandizement.”

Kibwana further announced the end of his nine-year political relationship with Mwau following his move to join UDA.

“While I respect Adelina for the good working relations for the last 9 years, her latest move puts our working together on the edge. The voice of the people of Makueni has always been our guide in decision making. I will not abandon that principle for political expediency. Adelina will work alone,” he said.

The deputy governor, who has worked with Governor Kivutha Kibwana since 2013 is eyeing the Makueni Woman Representative seat in the 9th August election.

Mwau joins Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar who also shifted to DP Ruto’s Camp.

Jaguar, who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2017 elections was welcomed to UDA on Monday, 24th January.
