Edwin Abonyo — the husband of the late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso — has conceded defeat in the fight for a Ksh100 million estate pitting him against his sister in-law Judy Cheptoo.

Cheptoo had moved to court protesting against him being appointed the administrator of Laboso’s estate, property which included that left behind by Laboso’s mother, Rebecca Laboso.

Court papers detailed that Abonyo has separated his property from that of his mother-in-law, arguing that he was no longer interested in taking control of the entire estate. This includes the shares held by the late Gov. Laboso in her mother’s estate. This he hopes, will cool down tensions and stop bitter division in the family.

He also noted that his mother-in-law’s property was being fought for by relatives in another court in Kericho and therefore expunging his property from the general estate saves him from the agony of more unnecessary litigation.
