Governor Mwangi Wa Iria Kicks Off Presidential Campaign [VIDEO]

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria declared his interest to vie for the presidency in the 2022 General Election.

The county boss kicked off his presidential bid on Wednesday, August 11, by launched branded vehicles that he will use to hit the campaign trail.

In a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the vehicles were branded in Jubilee colours as the governor explained that he was looking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mt Kenya region kingpin.

“There is nothing that will bar me from going for this seat and even if I fail the first time, I will keep trying my luck,” Wairia stated.

He further claimed that there were forces trying to pull him down by urging him to drop his ambition but he maintained that his eyes were set on the prize in August 2022.

Wa Iria explained that he would vie under the “Usawa Kwa Wote” party as he revealed plans of launching grassroots campaigns in the Central region and other parts of the country.

Wa Iria remarked that the party will also field candidates for other elective positions across the country.

This comes amid the backdrop of campaigns by Mt Kenya leaders backing Deputy President William Ruto for the presidency.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria speaking on Sunday, August 8 2021, announced that he was backing the DP in 2022 but he would not join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He called on leaders from Mt Kenya to join one political outfit. He was speaking after reports of a fallout with UDA emerged online following his decision to skip a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting hosted by Ruto at his Karen residence on August 5.

“Everyone should know that my choice of the presidential candidate for the 2022 general elections is the Deputy President,” the Gatundu South lawmaker stated.

Similarly, The Service Party of Kenya (TSP) Party Leader Mwangi Kiunjuri differed with Ruto over the DP for insinuating that he did not need coalitions ahead of the August 2022 poll.

The former Agriculture CS dismissed the Deputy President’s plan to make UDA a national party that would win the 2022 election without relying on regional parties.  

The former CS opined that political parties in Kenya were primarily regional parties that come together to form a national party.
