The negotiations chaired by Dr Peter Munga were fruitful and will now see the County Government and the County Assembly work together and ensure the 2020/2021 Budget is passed.

“I am happy about the outcome of the negotiations that have been going on between the County Government Executive and the County Assembly to build consensus on 2020/2021 Budget,” Waiguru said.

The Governor now says they will dedicate their efforts to delivering their mandate to the people of Kirinyaga by ensuring that the development agenda is achieved.

Waiguru had sought the intervention of the Senate as well as other relevant authorities to unlock the impasse following months of back and forth between the County Government and the Assembly.

She was even forced to reject amendments made to the budget by the MCAs in June after the ward representatives re-allocated funds meant for COVID-19 management to building of ward offices.

The bad blood seems to be over following the intervention of the Mt Kenya Foundation group chaired by prominent businessman Dr Peter Munga.

Following the deliberations, the parties have also resolved that the County Government will withdraw a case pending in court on the budget.
