The government has lifted the mandatory wearing of face masks in public places, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced.
Speaking in a press conference on Friday, 11th March CS Kagwe said that citizens can wear face masks if they so wish.
However, he said that people should maintain social distancing to ensure the risk of spread is limited.
He also encouraged the use of masks in all indoor functions which are organised to full capacity.
“There has been a lot of debate and discussions on the continued use of face masks as one of the containment measures. The mandatory wearing of face masks in open, public spaces is now lifted,” he said.
“Nonetheless, people are advised to maintain social distancing and avoid crowding in public spaces to ensure risk of spread is limited. We, however, encourage the use of face masks in all indoor functions.”
The CS further announced the resumption of in-person worship provided all congregants are vaccinated
“All in-person worship is to resume at full capacity as long as all the congregants and worshippers are vaccinated. The Interfaith Council is urged to develop protocols to facilitate the resumption of full congregational worship with full capacity of venues where all congregants are vaccinated,” he said.
He also said that all quarantine should be stopped with immediate effect as positive asymptotic cases shall be observed for five days before returning to work.
Return to work for those who were symptomatic, the CS said should be approved by a qualified health worker.
In-Country Transport
All PSV vehicles, train and domestic flight operators should ensure their staff are vaccinated and all travellers should wear their face masks during the journey.
The CS also stated that truck drivers fully vaccinated will not require any other documents. Unvaccinated drivers must however have a negative PCR test as a requirement.
