The Ministry of Health is expressing confidence that it will achieve its ambitious covid vaccination plan for the year.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe noted Sunday that the ongoing campaign has registered commendable progress and that the current trend will see the state hitting the numbers set for the end of the year.

“I want to note with appreciation that we are well on our way to achieving our vaccination target of 10 million Kenyans by December 31st, 2021,” Kagwe said in a statement

Kagwe’s optimism is perhaps informed by the latest figures indicating that as of December 25th, 2021, a total of 9,555,567 vaccines had been administered across the country.

Of these, 5,628,082 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,927,485.

Despite the positive outlook, the ministry is saying it isn’t leaving anything to chance. Kagwe is keen to have the doses available almost at a time that is convenient for all Kenyans so as to ensure no one is locked out of the exercise.

“Even as we continue to make Merry and enjoy the holidays, I would like to announce that ALL Public and Private Vaccination Centers will remain open until late during this festive period.” said the CS

“I want to thank those already vaccinated and encourage those that are yet to get either their first or second dose to do so soon.” He added

Kagwe noted that the uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8%. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.4%.

In terms of trends and proportion of those vaccinated, Nairobi County is leading with 32.8% of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri 30.0%, Laikipia 23.5%, Kiambu 21.6%, Taita Taveta 17.6%, Murang’a 17.2%, Uasin Gishu at 16.8%, Kirinyaga 16.2%, Machakos 16.1%, Kakamega 16.1%, Nyandarua 15.6%, Nakuru 15.2%.
