Harambee Starlets Thumps South Sudan in AWCON Qualifiers

Kenya National women team Harambee Starlets thrashed neighbours South Sudan 8-0 in the first leg of the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) Qualifiers held at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

Neddy Atieno notched four goals while Jentrix Shikangwa and Mwanahalima Adam scored a brace each to seal a comfortable win for the Starlets.

Starlets now shift focus to the return league which will be played on Saturday 23rd October.

South Sudan will host the second leg in the same stadium due to the unavailability of Caf standards stadium in their country.

The winner on aggregate of the two-legged fixture will advance to the final round of the qualifiers, with 11 teams bidding to earn a place to participate at the AWCON in Morocco in July 2022.

1st Leg 20th October 2021

Uganda 2-0 Ethiopia

Kenya 8-0 South Sudan

Tanzania 1-2 Namibia

Zimbabwe 3-0 Eswatini

Mozambique 0-7 South Africa

Egypt 2-6 Tunisia

Central Africa Republic 0-1 Cameroon
