Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Wednesday evening set the internet ablaze after claiming that the government wanted to demolish Deputy President William Ruto’s Weston Hotel in Lang’ata, Nairobi County.

The controversial lawmaker through his social media platforms shared photos of bulldozers, alleging that they were spotted somewhere near the hotel.

“The deep state is indeed cornered. They have today decided to express their fury by attempting to demolish Weston Hotel,” he wrote.

Litkenya.com could not independently verify the claims.

However, there is evidence suggesting that indeed the bulldozers had been dispatched to bring the hotel down, as it is impossible to tell whether photos of the heavy machinery were taken.

Kenyans reacted with divergent views. A section of netizens supported the plan to demolish the hotel if at all it has been hatched.

Sheryl Akoth: “Where is the problem yet it was acquired illegally? Give the public what belongs to it.

However, some did not support the idea of pulling down the hotel buildings.

Agnes Ndungu: “Demolishing Weston Hotel will not make Ruto lose his job, but is important to note that thousands of Kenyans depend on it to provide for their families.”

Speaking to BBC in 2019, Dr. Ruto admitted that land, where Weston Hotel sits, was acquired illegally.

He said that he unknowingly bought the land from people who had grabbed it from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

“For the record, the National Land Commission (NLC) has made a finding that Weston was an innocent purchaser for value from somebody who got it illegally and preparations have been constitutionally to restore the land to KCAA by demanding that those who sold to us must pay,” he said.
