Former Papa Shirandula TV drama series actress Jacky Vike, who is popularly known as Awinja Nyamwalo, has given an emotional account of her departed brother.
Speaking during an interview with Engage Mtaani, the actress vividly recalled the day her younger brother, Bongo, was shot dead in Nairobi.
The mother of one said that they (she and their mother) had tried warning him to keep off bad company. Unfortunately, the words fell on deaf ears, and instead, things escalated to a point that he moved out to his own place.

Eventually, her brother began getting involved in crimes, got arrested but would later on be released on bond. As a family, many would begin to live in fear of the day that the worst would happen.
Recalling how the events turned out, she said: “I was in a matatu headed to visit a friend at the Kenyatta National Hospital when I got a call from one of the boys in the hood. He told me that Bongo and his friends had been sprayed with bullets.”

Awinja, who is still in denial, went to the City Mortuary with the hope that her brother would still be alive and kicking. Sadly she confirmed her worst fears after viewing her sibling’s lifeless body.
While holding her tears back, Awinja said: “That’s when I confirmed it was him. A bullet had torn through his mouth and exited from the neck.”

As a result, Awinja chose to give acting her best to change the family’s name and narrative. This also made her promise herself that she was never going to watch another life prematurely come to an end because of crime. She said she had managed to educate her other siblings with earnings from her acting career.

“What hurts me the most about his death is the fact that at 20, his life had just started. I have acting my all because I want to tell our story and bring about change. Where I come from we are losing very young boys and I would love for them to reform,” the third born in a family of four said.
