Facebook (Android | iOS | Web) allows you to customize your account by adding a cover photo that sits behind your profile picture. The feature is interesting not only to make Facebook more customized, but also gives a unique visual identity, especially if it is your company or business page.

Creating a custom cover photo for Facebook is simple and can be done using third-party programs. Below is a selection of the best.

How to make a cover photo on Facebook

First, be aware of the proportions

By default, the Facebook profile cover is displayed at the maximum size of 851 x 310 pixels on the PC, and it fits the same proportions in the social network’s mobile app. Therefore, any size larger than this will still require you to adjust the image manually.

Use an online image editor

There are a plethora of platforms for PC and mobile that offer ready-made images for you to use as a cover photo on Facebook. Or, these services already have the exact cut in which the image should be adjusted.

Most programs are free. And if you just use the clipping format, it’s unlikely that you’ll need to pay or subscribe for anything on these platforms. Some even have tools to further customize their images.

Create a cover according to your profile or page

For a personal profile, the cover photo usually features something the user likes or a memory they want to highlight for others. As for brands and companies, the suggestion is that your product or some element related to it be highlighted.

In both situations, whether your personal profile or business page, keep in mind that the cover photo will be one of the first things other users will see once they log into your profile. Oh, don’t forget that Facebook doesn’t allow you to use offensive images and don’t violate the social network’s Terms of Service.

How to change cover photo on Facebook

Access your profile

With your cover image ready, open your Facebook profile. In the lower right corner of the window where the featured photo is, go to “Edit cover photo” and then “Upload photo”.

Select new cover image

Search for the new cover image on your device and upload the file to Facebook. If you created an image following the exact proportions of 851 x 310 pixels, you don’t need to make any changes.

If the photo is larger than this aspect ratio, you’ll notice that the width is automatically set by Facebook. However, the height can be adjusted up or down.

At the end, go to “Save changes” to apply the new image to your Facebook cover.

It is made! Your new cover image will be visible to your friends and other Facebook users.
